Saturday when I went to pick up my child from her dance class, I stumbled upon an ikebana exhibition next to her class. This simple flower arrangement symbolizes not only aesthetic beauty but something that touches the inner self Zen philosophy believes in concentration and practice. Ikebana focuses on inner stillness leading to an enriched sense of self which comes with practice ,discipline and awareness. Awareness of being in the moment. The arrangement of the flowers were so simple, and yet their beauty spoke volumes. The more I saw, the calmer and quiet I became. What must the artist have gone through before the final arrangement was reached? Journeys are not only about destinations but the process as well. So often I have found myself enjoying the process .
Ikebana art is not only about beauty. It is about the marriage of beauty and simplicity. The blend that brings up the best combination soothing to the heart and mind and pleasing and attractive to the eye. I enjoyed the evening. I went back home in a much calmer and appreciative state of mind. This is usually felt when I have been doing my meditation processes and experienced the inner journey. Healing sessions with music, have left me calm and soothed from within. Connecting to you inner ‘zen’ during healing and meditation sessions is always a humbling experience that emphases just how simple, honest and open a life we can lead. When we are focused and in the moment we reach a state of ‘zen’. The more clarity of mind we experience, the more intense is the overall experience. Just like the arrangement of flowers and branches we create in effect, the calm that nature brings to us.

My body is my friend

Our body is made up of cells and each of these cells has its own intelligence and memory. The cells in our body are constantly imbibing everything that we hear and all that is going on around us. All information, positive and negative, is stored in the cellular memory and the cells respond accordingly. For example when you keep saying : I am so fat, it is difficult for me to lose weight, – this is all that your cells are hearing and so they respond to these statements – by holding on to the fat – so that your statement “ I am so fat ‘ remains so in your reality.
As you learn to talk to your body lovingly and positively – it responds to you in a positive manner. Issues of weight loss, ugliness, and complexion are no longer a struggle. Consider your body as your friend and walk the path together. Thus making the journey one of least effort and most results. Respect your body’s intelligence by talking AND listening to it.

In the morning as you begin your day and in the night as you end your day – use the technique to talk to your body and watch amazing results.
Lovingly touch your skin and talk to your body. Say that you love your body and thank it for functioning in wonderful order. Thank your body for serving you and your life purpose.

When you are trying to lose weight, or gain weight or removal of disease or any work with the body, understand you are not alone in it. Your body is an integral part of it and of you. Make your body your friend and work with it, rather than taking it for granted and just “doing to” or even experimenting the body.

For weight loss: a minute just prior to beginning your exercise routine, speak to your body lovingly. Assure your body that you will respect its limits. Affirm to yourself: My body is of the weight best suited for me to be healthy’. All excess weight is easily and effortlessly being dropped. Also add that you are helping your body drop all the excess weight. You both are working together towards good health.

For disease: Speak to your body that you are ready to release the pile up of past emotions and that it need not store these past emotions in your body. Ask the body for it to be released gently, just as much as you can handle. Affirm to yourself: “The past no longer exists. I let go easily and gently.” “I love myself, I value myself.”

For beauty: Move your palms on your face, feeling the smoothness of your skin. Talk to your body to release all toxins, emotional and physical, that keep your skin from its natural glow. Affirm to yourself, preferably, in front of the mirror “My skin is radiant and healthy. I am happy. I am a beautiful child of the Universe.

As you practice talking to your body, it will respond to you. You now need to learn to listen to your body and understand these responses. You will suddenly be attracted towards certain type of foods more than you have ever been. You might want to try new foods. If your body requires movement, you will be drawn to new forms of exercise, dance or walk. Whatever no longer serves you to remain healthy the body will simply reject. You will find your body rejecting foods that you may have always been eating. The body rejects by – lack of taste, upset stomach, sweat. Never force your body – for anything. It is simply disrespectful. Make your body your friend today, the rewards are sweet.
